"Quality of Life" Award are:
Grete
Hale, John Jarvis and Garry Byrne

Grete Hale has lived all her life at Bayne House,
the oldest house in Ottawa.
She’s a graduate from Carleton University with a
degree in Journalism.. She
spent ten years in the catering business in five different
countries. She has
served thousands of volunteer hours, chaired numerous boards
(more then we can mention) but
most notably was Chairman of
the Board of Morrison Lamothe Inc.
Grete is the proud recipient of numerous awards such as
the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal, 125th
Confederation medal and the Ottawa-Carleton Business Women of
the Year Award. She
also has received many other accolodates for her countless
hours of charitable work within our City.
John Jarvis, a native of
Vancouver, has worked since 1985 in various Canadian cities
for the Starwood Hotels and Resorts and now is General Manager
of the Westin Ottawa. He is actively involved in the Ottawa
Community as President of the Ottawa Gatineau Hotel
Association, Chair of the Algonquin College Advisory Committee
for Hotel and Restaurant Program and serves as Chair of the
Christmas Cheer Foundation.
John was honored with the United Way Community Builders
Award.
Garry
Byrne is a native of Ottawa, and has spent a lifetime of
working within the community. In 1984 he came to work at St.
Joseph’s Parish as Director of Administration and Finance
and this was later expanded to Director of Administration,
Finance and Social Programs. He held the position of President
of Camp Tekakwith, volunteered at Waupoos Island and then
helped to build Waupoos Farm (holiday places for low-income
families).
He later became the Director, then Vice President then
President of the Foundation.
Garry was also heavily involved with the Oblates of
Mary Immaculate (through Waupoos as well as the Oblate
Continuing Care Foundation and other Oblate activities. In May
of 1984, he was responsible for starting St. Joe’s Women’s
Centre and continues to be present as a member of the
Centre’s Advisory Committee.
